Beyond Website Basics: Q&A with Radiant Aura

It’s easy to view your website as just another marketing tool. Sure, it can definitely play a big role in generating sales but it is so much more than that. I like to view it as a book cover. Like it or not, we judge a book by its cover and the same is true when viewing a website. It’s the book cover of your business. And that’s just the beginning of its potential.

In this blog series, I will be asking inspiring small business owners about what they do and the importance of their website. The series is intended to inspire you to see beyond the text and images on a page and also to relate to others who may be on a similar journey to you.

Remember, your website is worthy of time and energy to really showcase just what your business is all about.

Katie of Radiant Aura shares her insights below.

Briefly describe your business and the role you play in it.

My business Radiant Aura offers people ways to reconnect back with themselves and their inner radiance. I work with clients who are feeling lost or stuck, anxious or depressed, as well as those who are on a spiritual journey and wanting to learn more about who they are.

As a holistic kinesiologist and reiki master, I work with them one-on-one to open up new possibilities and help create change. I also host a monthly full moon healing meditation circle, as well as guided healing programs, in person and virtually.

I very much believe that we are all here to live the life we want, and Radiant Aura was created to inspire more people to reach within and shine their own unique light into the world.

How long ago did you make the trusting leap to start your business and what was the catalyst that told you “hey, I can actually do this and do it well”?

The catalyst for change was not so much “I can actually do this”, rather it was “I can’t do this anymore” when it came to what I was doing. When I left my previous career in 2012, I had little to no idea as to what I will be doing! I literally leapt into the unknown. But doors opened very quickly, and I just kept walking through them. My business has evolved as I’ve evolved. I’m now better able to find the courage to do things my way. It’s scary, but I know it’s the only way forward.

What is your ‘why’? What lights you up each day to continue doing what you do?

As cliche as it might sound, my clients motivate me to keep doing what I do. I continue to grow and evolve as I guide them to grow and evolve. When they heal, I heal. We are all connected. And we are in this together!

Each business is unique and no one marketing plan works for everyone. For you, which marketing activities have really helped to propel your business forward to attract more of your desired clients/customers?

In the beginning, I enrolled in many online marketing courses, and quickly came to the conclusion that none of that matters if you’re not aligned internally. Working on myself has been by far the most reliable way to move my business forward. If I’m not balanced and clear, everything stops. You do still have to take the right action steps, but the biggest changes have come from the changes I make on the inside!

Often we take our website for granted and think, “oh that thing, that’s just a requirement of my business”. Obviously, your website plays a bigger role than this so, upon reflection, what role does your website play in your business?

My website is an extension of who I am. It gives potential clients a feel for who I am and how I work. It’s their first chance to “meet” me. Clients will often say love my website, either resonating with my story, the words on my blog or the overall look and feel of the site.

As with anything business related (or life related for that matter), there’s a learning curve and some trial and error until we get it right. What advice would you give to your just-starting-out-in-business self about how to go about your website and online marketing?

Don’t try to do it all yourself. Reach out for help. And take it one step at a time!

What are one or two things that are on your website wish list and how do you see them coming to fruition?

A video introduction, and a free resources page. Taking my own advice above, I will take it one step at a time!
