For a while now I’ve kept something to myself, especially when I’m out with friends or visiting family. It’s something that I can only share with a select few and generally most wouldn’t be able to comprehend it or wouldn’t even want to hear it.
But I feel like I can share it with other business owners and know that most will understand and experience the same thing too.
The thing is… I love Mondays. You know, that day of the week that society in general loves to hate. There’s nothing like waking up on a Monday morning and feeling energised by the week ahead. I get inspired by the projects I create and I get enthused by the community I work alongside. I even contemplated changing my business name to Monday Creative in honour of this love… That was until I saw another creative business owner had the same idea, which made me smile.
It’s definitely one of the biggest things I’m grateful for; that my business has facilitated this love of workdays. And loving Mondays is a sure sign that you’re doing what you love. Being my own boss also means that I get to shape Mondays my way. Some Mondays are spent 100% focussed on launching a website. Other Mondays are spent with a notebook and pen crafting a blog post. And there are Mondays where I answer emails, clean up my inbox and tidy my desk. It’s a special thing to be able to make Mondays my own.
So, I want to ask you a question: How have your Mondays been this year? Just for a moment, forget about your profit and loss statement, your social media likes and how many subscribers you have. Just for now, sit with how your Mondays have been feeling.
Have you awoken with energy for the week ahead? Or have you been feeling a sense of dread on Sunday nights? Be honest with yourself.
If Mondays have been feeling kinda heavy, what little steps can you take to switch this around? Or is a bigger shift in thinking and doing needed to make the change? If it’s been feeling too hard, revisit your WHY. Why did you start your business? What was the energy behind it all? Why should you get out of bed on Mondays?
But you know what, even if you’re still not a fan of Mondays, I applaud you for showing up anyway. Running a business is huge and we wear many different hats as a result. It’s all about putting in the work, even on the first day of the week.
If you too are a closet lover of Mondays, let me know! Thanks for your understanding. I feel a little less like an outcast and more than ever a part of a growing and amazing movement.
Monday, I love you.
